Help & How to Play

Get set up, learn how a KOTT server works, and find answers to the things new players run into.

What is KOTT?

King of the Touge is touge racing for Assetto Corsa — head-to-head on mountain passes, with verified lap times and a skill ranking.

Communities run it on their own servers. Pick one and jump in. Browse communities →

What you need to install

One paid game, three free downloads. Log in with Steam at the top of this site — that's all the account setup you need (Discord linking is optional).

  1. 1
Assetto Corsa Steam — paid game
  2. 2
Content Manager Free launcher — handles server joining
  3. 3
Custom Shaders Patch 0.2.8+ Required for the live HUD
  4. 4
The track your community runs Each community picks its own — Content Manager can usually download it for you when you join

Racing on a KOTT server

Join a server and you can cruise it, set timed laps, or challenge anyone on it.

  • Timed laps. Press R any time — a 3-second countdown teleports you to the start and the clock begins. Going off-track or teleporting to the pits invalidates the lap; press R to go again. After a clean lap you are returned to the start automatically (toggle with Ctrl+A).
  • Battles. Challenge any connected driver from the racer list. They accept with Y, you both teleport to the start, and for the length of the battle you collide only with each other — everyone else on the server passes straight through.
  • Layouts. A server can host every layout of a pass at once — downhill, uphill, reversed. Switch between them in-game without reconnecting.
  • See-through cars. Anyone you would pass through can be faded out, or hidden entirely, at whatever strength you like. A car you could actually hit is never hidden.

How ranking works

Every battle you race feeds a skill rating belonging to that community — its drivers, its standings. Beating a higher-rated driver earns more; losing to a lower-rated one costs more. Racing the same person repeatedly counts for less each time, so a ladder cannot be farmed between two friends.

Results are worked out from the race itself rather than taken on trust from anyone's game, and lap times are validated the same way — so the standings mean something.

In-game keybinds

Press H in-game for this list plus HUD toggles.

All keybinds
G Challenge someone / join the open queue — press again to leave
Y/N Accept / decline a challenge
R Start a timed lap (3-second countdown), or ready up for a battle
E Switch layout — downhill, uphill, reversed. Only works while stopped
F Forfeit the current battle (hold 1 second)
T Switch spectator target
X Put the camera back on your own car
Ctrl+B Cycle what the delta compares against
H Open / close the HUD panel — window toggles and this list

The "Connect Now" button doesn't open Content Manager

Content Manager registers a custom protocol handler (acmanager://) when it's installed. If the button does nothing, either Content Manager isn't installed yet or the handler isn't registered.

  • Install Content Manager from acstuff.ru if you haven't.
  • Already installed? Open Content Manager once with admin rights — it'll re-register the handler.
  • Or just copy the IP:port shown below the button into Content Manager's "Add server" dialog.

I can't connect to a server

  • Assetto Corsa must be installed via Steam (the original game; AC Competizione won't work).
  • Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) version 0.2.7 (build 2651) or newer.
  • Make sure you have the track that server runs. Content Manager will tell you at the connect screen if it's missing, and can usually fetch it.
  • The server might be full or restarting — check /servers-browser for live status.
  • Still stuck? Check /status for any open incident, and ping us on Discord.

Why didn't my rating change?

Only completed battles move it. A cancelled or expired race, or one where both drivers disconnect, runs no rating maths at all. Your rating also belongs to the community whose server you raced on — racing somewhere else moves a different number, and a community that has turned ranking off moves none. Check your profile for the current figure.

Do I need to link Discord to play?

No. Signing in with Steam is enough to race. Linking Discord is optional — it lets us DM you your results and lets a community give you a role that matches your standing there. You can link it from /me at any time, and unlink just as easily.

The result of my race is wrong

Open the race from your profile and use the "Report match" button on its detail page. Every result is worked out server-side from the race itself, so a dispute is reviewed against the full telemetry rather than either driver's word; the status updates on that same page.

I want to report a bug or give feedback

Use the Report an Issue page (also linked from the footer). For real-time chat or quick questions, the Discord is the fastest path.

Where's the Discord?

https://discord.gg/y8nYwcn979. Same link in the footer of every page.
