Help & How to Play

Get set up, learn the modes, and find answers to the things new players run into.

What is KOTT?

King of the Touge is competitive 1v1 touge racing for Assetto Corsa — race head-to-head on mountain passes, earn a skill rating, climb the leaderboard. Three modes: Time Attack, Matchmaking, and Free Roam.

Time Attack ← Start here

Solo Laps · Shared Server

Solo laps on a shared non-contact server — no opponent, no rating risk. Your personal best posts to the leaderboard.

  • Press R to start a lap — a 3-second countdown teleports you to the grid.
  • Off-track or pit teleport invalidates the lap. Press R to go again.
  • After a valid lap, auto-reset returns you to the grid (toggle with Ctrl+A).
Matchmaking

Ranked 1v1 · Best of 3

Queue up, get matched near your skill level — rating moves with every series.

  • Join the queue from the web or Discord. When matched you get a Content Manager join link — click it to connect.
  • Press Y at the in-game ready check. Races start side-by-side; positions swap each round.
  • First to two round wins takes the series. Your rating updates immediately on your profile and the leaderboard.
Free Roam

Open driving · Challenge anyone

Cruise the pass with no queue — run solo timed laps or call out any driver for an unranked 1v1.

  • Just drive. Press R any time for a solo timed lap with the same timing rules as Time Attack.
  • Challenge any connected driver from the racer list — they accept with Y, and you both teleport to a point-to-point race where you collide only with each other.
  • Challenges are unranked: your rating never moves, but wins and laps still show on your profile.

How rating works

You start at 1500 SR with a provisional tag that drops as you play. Beating higher-rated players earns more; losing to lower-rated players costs more. Only completed ranked matches move your rating — Time Attack and Free Roam never do.

The "Connect Now" button doesn't open Content Manager

Content Manager registers a custom protocol handler (acmanager://) when it's installed. If the button does nothing, either Content Manager isn't installed yet or the handler isn't registered.

  • Install Content Manager from acstuff.ru if you haven't.
  • Already installed? Open Content Manager once with admin rights — it'll re-register the handler.
  • Or just copy the IP:port shown below the button into Content Manager's "Add server" dialog.

I can't connect to a server

  • Assetto Corsa must be installed via Steam (the original game; AC Competizione won't work).
  • Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) version 0.2.7 (build 2651) or newer.
  • Make sure the track (currently Akina Downhill) is installed. KOTT will complain at the connect screen if it's missing.
  • The server might be full or recycling — check /servers-browser for live status.
  • Still stuck? Check /status for any open incident, and ping us on Discord.

Why didn't my rating change?

Rating only moves on completed ranked matches. Unranked, cancelled, expired, and mutual-disconnect matches don't affect rating. If both players DC mid-race, the result is "Match cancelled" and no rating math runs. Match dispute outcomes can also reverse a result — check your profile for the latest rating.

Do I need to link Discord to play?

No. Logging in with Steam is enough to queue and race. Linking Discord is optional — it lets us DM you when a match is found (instead of you keeping the queue page open) and syncs your rank badge with your Discord role. You can link from /me any time.

The match outcome is wrong

Open the match from /matches or your profile, click into the detail page, and use the "Report match" button. Disputes go to admin review with the full match telemetry; you'll see the status update on the same page.

I want to report a bug or give feedback

Use the Report an Issue page (also linked from the footer). For real-time chat or quick questions, the Discord is the fastest path.

Where's the Discord?
